Rationale: | Smoking during pregnancy is a risk factor for adverse events in pregnancy, and can be associated with low birthweight, pre-term birth, fetal growth restriction, congenital abnormalities and perinatal death. Low birthweight infants are at a greater risk of dying during the first year of life and are prone to ill health in childhood. Smoking during pregnancy is also associated with increased risk of spontaneous abortion and ectopic pregnancy. |

Computation description: | Count of female Indigenous regular clients who gave birth within the previous 12 months, and whose smoking status result recorded during pregnancy was:
Presented as a number. Calculated separately for each smoking status. Birth: includes live births and still births if the birthweight was at least 400 grams or the gestational age was 20 weeks or more. Operationalisation of smoking status: include only the most recent smoking status recorded prior to the completion of the latest pregnancy. Where an Indigenous regular client’s tobacco smoking status does not have an assessment date assigned within the Client Information System (CIS), smoking status should not be counted. Include: results arising from measurements conducted outside of the organisation that are known by the organisation. |
