Computation description:Help on this term

Rates directly age-standardised to the 2001 Australian Standard Population.

Analyses by state and territory, remoteness and Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA) Index of Relative Socio-Economic Disadvantage (IRSD) are based on the Statistical Area Level 2 (SA2) of the person at the time of their diagnosis.

Rates that are considered unstable and should be interpreted with caution will be noted. Rates that are considered very unstable will not be published.

Presented as:

  • a number (for state and territory by cancer type disaggregations)
  • per 100,000.

Calculated separately for each type of cancer.

Cancer types in these disaggregations comprise: bowel cancer (ICD-10 2016 version codes C18–C20), lung cancer (C33–C34), melanoma of the skin (C43), female breast cancer (C50) and cervical cancer (C53).

The 2018 tables only include data from Victoria.

Some disaggregation may result in numbers too small for publication.
