DSS type:Help on this termData Element Cluster
Scope:Help on this term

This cluster contains three data elements which, if collected together, enable data to be mapped to Statistical Areal Level 2 (SA2) or Statistical Local Area (SLA) geographic unit which can be examined on the SEIFA indexes to ascertain a SEIFA score for a geographic area which is a measure of the collective socio-economic status of the people living in the area.

The collection of information about a person's or service provider organisation's locality, postcode and state/territory enables the geographical entity to be ascertained which can then be examined in the relevant SEIFA index. Where locality, postcode and state/territory are collected, there are a number of concordance/correspondence files available from [email protected] which can assist in assigning geographic area codes, such as:

  • 2011 localities (and postcode and state/territory) to 2011 SA2
  • 2011 localities (and postcode and state/territory) to 2011 SLAs.

Collection and usage attributes

Guide for use:Help on this term

The collection of residential postcode + locality + state/territory can be mapped to SA2 or SLA. The SLA geographical unit from the ASGC geography framework is being supported for the 2011 Census and 2011 SEIFA.

Comments:Help on this term

SEIFA indexes are assigned to areas, not to individuals.
