CODE 2   Acute otitis media

Describes the presence of suppurative (infected) middle ear fluid with intact bulging or recent discharge and or bulging eardrum.
 
CODE 3   Acute otitis media with perforation

Describes the presence of suppurative (infected) middle ear fluid with a perforated eardrum.

CODE 4   Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) active discharge

A persistent suppurative discharge from the middle ear through a tympanic membrane perforation for more than six weeks.

CODE 5   Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) inactive dry perforation

A condition that appears as a hole in the eardrum without any evidence of suppurative otitis media (either acute or chronic).
 
CODE 6   Otitis media with effusion (OME)

The presence of intact eardrum and middle ear fluid without symptoms or signs of infection.
 
CODE 7   Foreign body

Any object originating outside the body.
