Definition:Help on this term

The process whereby the residential care service accepts responsibility for the Resident's residential care and accommodation. Episode of residential care start is the administrative process by which a residential care service records either:

Formal episode of residential care start:

  • the start of residential care and accommodation of a resident, and,
  • the unplanned return from leave of a resident (when there had been no intention of returning to overnight residential care within seven days);

or Statistical episode of residential care start:

  • the start of a reference period for a resident continuing their residential care and accommodation, from the previous reference period.
