Guide for use:![]() | CODE 01 Lives alone The person lives on their own. A person living alone in a private room within a retirement village, aged care facility, boarding house etc. should be coded as CODE 04 ‘Lives with others’.
CODE 02 Lives with family - partner only The person lives with their partner only. Includes spousal, de facto and same sex relationships.
CODE 03 Lives with family - other The person lives with family members. Family members may include the person’s partner but if they live with their partner only, the person should be coded as CODE 02 ‘Lives with family – partner only’. If the person's household includes both family and non-family members, the person should be coded as living with family.
CODE 04 Lives with others The person lives with non-family members.
CODE 10 Other The person’s living arrangements are not described by CODE 01–CODE 04.
CODE 99 Not stated/inadequately described This code is for use where information is insufficient to assign CODE 01–CODE 10, unclear or unavailable.

Guide for use:![]() | On occasion, difficulties can arise in deciding the living arrangement of a person due to their type of accommodation (in particular, someone who lives in a private room within a retirement village, residential aged care facility, boarding house, hostel, or group home). In these circumstances, the person is considered to be living with other people, and should be coded as follows:
