These procedure terms are also defined by the Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI) codes which are listed in the Comments field below. This coded list is the recommended, but optional, method for determining whether a patient is classified as requiring elective surgery or other care. | ||||||
| Comments: | The table of ACHI procedure codes was originally prepared by the National Centre for Classification in Health. A review of this data element was conducted in 2021 and procedure codes were added to some sections to make them more complete (e.g. organ transplant). Other procedures and categories were added as they are listed in the Tier 2 non-admitted services definitions manual sourced from the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority within the 10 series - Procedure Classes category. These procedures can be claimed by hospitals on an outpatient/non-admitted basis. In jurisdictions which have a dedicated outpatient/non-admitted clinic to perform the procedures, a formal admission process is not required for procedures such as angioplasty, panendoscopy, colonoscopy.
