The Hospital transfer cluster defines the number of planned and unplanned transfers between prison and a community-based hospital during the National Prisoner Health Data Collection period.

The Hospital transfer cluster comprises two data elements: Prison—planned hospital transfer indicator, yes/no code N and Prison—number of hospital transfers, number N[NN] that in combination define the number and type (planned/unplanned) of transfers between prison and a community-based hospital during the National Prisoner Health Data Collection period.

The Hospital transfer cluster was included in the Prisoner Health NBEDS as the National Prisoner Health Indicators includes the indicator: Number of hospital transfers for prisoners in custody during the data collection period.
