Comments: | Whether or not a person lives alone is a significant determinant of risk. Living alone may preclude certain treatment approaches (e.g. home dialysis for end-stage renal disease). Social isolation has also been shown to have a negative impact on prognosis in males with known coronary artery disease with several studies suggesting increased mortality rates in those living alone or with no confidant. |
