CODE ACUP Acupuncture See section 97 of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009. Endorsement for acupuncture may be granted to Chiropractors and Osteopaths (2521), Medical practitioners (2531), Physiotherapists (2525) and Podiatrists (2526), who are regulated under the National Law and who are also qualified to practise as an acupuncturist. CODE AP Approved area of practice See section 98 of the National Law. Endorsement for approved area of practice identifies classes of registered practitioners who hold additional qualifications in an area of practice that has been approved by the Ministerial Council under section 15 of the National Law. The Ministerial Council has approved the following areas of practice:
– Psychology (2723): (clinical psychology, counselling psychology, forensic psychology, clinical neuropsychology, organisational psychology, sport and exercise psychology, and educational and developmental psychology)
– Dental practitioners (2523) approved area of practice in conscious sedation. CODE SM Scheduled medicines See section 94 of the National Law. Endorsement for scheduled medicines identifies registered practitioners within a profession who the National Board has determined are qualified to use (for example, supply or prescribe) medicines that are otherwise subject to restricted access because of State and Territory laws that regulate drugs and poisons. Scheduled medicines endorsements have been approved by the Ministerial Council to apply to:
– Nursing (2544)
– Optometry (2515) and
– Podiatry (2526). Not all providers of a given type are permitted to prescribe scheduled medicines. For example, an optometrist can prescribe drugs for a sore eye but not for a sore foot. CODE MP Midwife practitioner See section 96 of the National Law. Endorsement as a midwife practitioner may only be granted to midwives who are qualified for advanced practice in midwifery. CODE NP Nurse practitioner See section 95 of the National Law. Endorsement as a nurse practitioner may only be granted to registered nurses (division 1) who are qualified for advanced practice in nursing. |
