Description: | Proportion of ambulances that respond to acute chest pain calls that are equipped with a 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) in the Local Hospital Network (LHN) or reference ambulance service. |
Rationale: | Early diagnosis allows ambulance personnel/officers to initiate treatment and alert the emergency department (ED) with the diagnostic information to optimise door-to-needle time and time to other interventions. The Guidelines for the management of acute coronary syndromes 2006 recommend that "a 12-lead ECG should be taken en route and transmitted to a medical facility" (Acute Coronary Syndrome Guidelines Working Group 2006). |
