An indicator of the presence of an immediate or short-term treatment complication (adverse event) during clinical care.

This includes, but is not limited to, complications from surgical treatment, such as an unplanned return to theatre, infection or haemorrhage, or complication from drug treatment, such as hypertension or toxicity.
