NOTE: THIS PERFORMANCE INDICATOR HAS BEEN SUPERSEDED BY ITS EQUIVALENT FOR 2013, WITHOUT BEING MADE A STANDARD.

Number of Indigenous babies born within the previous 12 months whose birth weight has been recorded at the primary health care service.

Rationale:Help on this term

Low birth weight (newborn babies weighing less than 2,500 grams) is associated with an increased risk of ill health and is related to higher mortality within the first year of life. Low birth weight is a particular issue for Indigenous Australians. Recording birth weight encourages the provision of appropriate care to limit the negative associations of low birth weight.
