Description: | There are two measures for this indicator, both to be reported by Indigenous status: Measure (1a): Proportion of women who used antenatal care provided by skilled birth attendants for reasons related to pregnancy at least once during the first trimester of pregnancy, whether resulting in live or still birth. Measure (1b): Proportion of women who used antenatal care provided by skilled birth attendants for reasons related to pregnancy five or more times during pregnancy, whether resulting in live or still birth. |
Rationale: | The primary care needs of all Australians are met effectively through timely and quality care in the community. Good antenatal care is associated with positive health outcomes for mothers and babies. |

Computation description: | ‘Birth’ includes births if the birth weight was at least 400 grams or the gestational age was 20 weeks or more, excludes unknown birth weight. First trimester is defined as the first 13 weeks of pregnancy. Presentation: Number, percentage (crude and age standardised) rate ratio and rate difference. |
