CODE 1    Balloon angioplasty only

Use this code where only balloon angioplasty has been performed during a percutaneous coronary intervention.

CODE 2    Bare metal stent implantation

Use this code where a bare metal stent has been implanted during a percutaneous coronary intervention.

CODE 3    Drug-eluting stent implantation

Use this code where at least one drug-eluting stent has been implanted during a percutaneous coronary intervention (i.e. if more than one stent has been placed during the procdure and at least one stent is a drug-eluting stent).

CODES 2 and 3 include the performance of balloon angioplasty.
