Definition:Help on this termThe intention of the responsible clinician at the time of the patient's admission to hospital or at the time the patient is placed on an elective surgery waiting list, to discharge the patient either on the day of admission or a subsequent date.

To assist in the identification and casemix analysis of planned same-day patients, that is those patients who are admitted with the intention of discharge on the same day. This is also a key indicator for quality assurance activities.
