| Rationale: | Cervical screenings are effective at detecting and treating cervical abnormalities when they are still precancerous, and have been found to significantly reduce the incidence and mortality of cervical cancer. Indigenous women experience higher cervical cancer incidence and mortality than non-Indigenous women. Increasing participation in cervical screening is important to reduce the number of women who present with cervical cancer and ultimately die from the disease. |

| Computation description: | Count of femaleIndigenous regular clients aged 25–74 who have not had a hysterectomy and who had a cervical screening (HPV) test within the previous 5 years where the test occurred on or after 1 December 2017. Presented as a number. Count is of women, not tests. Cervical screening: a HPV test is a test that detects persistent HPV infection that causes the abnormal cell changes prior to the development of cervical cancer. From 1 December 2017 the screening test for cervical cancer changed from the Pap test to a test for human papillomavirus (HPV), and the recommended screening age changed from 18–69 to 25–74. The HPV test is offered every 5 years instead of every 2 as it was with the Pap test. Women are considered to have had appropriate screening if they have had a cervical screening (HPV) test within the previous 5 years where the test occurred on or after 1 December 2017. Include HPV tests where the sample is either collected by a health practitioner or self-collected. |
