Description:![]() | The Fifth National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan (the Fifth Plan) is an integral part of the National Mental Health Strategy, a suite of documents—including the National Mental Health Policy, Mental Health Statement of Rights and Responsibilities and four successive National Mental Health Plans—that has driven mental health reform in Australia for 25 years. The National Mental Health Strategy articulates a vision for a mental health system that:
The Fifth Plan commits Australian governments to actions in eight priority areas:
The Fifth Plan identifies 24 national key performance indicators, guided by the domains set out in the National Mental Health Commission’s 2014 National Review of Mental Health Programmes and Services. They range from measures of the health status of the population to measures of the process of mental health care. Wherever possible, the indicators provide both a combined national view and a more detailed view for community groups or mental health services, and allow performance to be reported for different age groups, for men and women, and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. |
