A birth is defined as the event in which a baby comes out of the uterus after a pregnancy of least 20 weeks gestation or weighing 400 grams or more. Caesarean section is an operative procedure to remove the baby through a cut through the woman’s abdomen and uterus. Included are those women who gave birth by caesarean section. Excluded are those who gave birth through the vagina. Source of definition: Australian Council of Healthcare Standards (ACHS) indicator 4.1, General anaesthesia for caesarean section. |
