| Rationale: | Life expectancy at birth is one of the most widely used broad measures of population health outcomes. It is the key component of measuring the objective to ‘Close the life expectancy gap within a generation’. |

| Computation: | This measure is defined as: direct estimation of the life expectancy gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians using the average number of deaths in the relevant three-year period and the estimated resident population at the mid-point of that three-year period, with adjustments for incomplete identification by Indigenous status.
