Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) item numbers changed on 1 May 2010, therefore information for two time periods are presented below:

1 July 2009 to 30 April 2010:
Includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Health Checks (limited to those given to 3, 4 and 5 year olds)

Count children who received both a 4th year developmental health check (Healthy Kids Check) and an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Health Check once only. Count children who have received more than one check (of either type) once only.

4th year developmental health check (Healthy Kids Check) = MBS items 709 and 711.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Health Check = MBS item 708.

1 May 2010 to 30 June 2010:
In extracting data for the items in question only services involving patients who were 3, 4 or 5 years of age will be tabulated.

Count children who receive both a health assessment and an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health assessment once only. Count children who have received more than one check (of either type) once only.

Brief, standard, long and prolonged health assessments are claimed under Items 701, 703, 705, 707 respectively.

Health assessment provided by a practice nurse or registered Aboriginal health worker = MBS item 10986

All health assessments involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are claimed under MBS Item 715.

Analysis by remoteness and SEIFA Indicator of Relative Socio-economic Disadvantage (IRSD) is based on usual residence of person.

Data for MBS Items 709 and 711 (Healthy Kids Check) include Indigenous children who receive these checks. It is therefore not possible to produce an Indigenous disaggregation.

MBS item numbers change over time and need to be updated as required.

Indigenous Experimental Population Projections are available by 5 year age group, not by single year of age. Estimates for Indigenous children aged 4 years old are used.
