Scope:	The scope of this data set is admitted patients receiving palliative care in all public and private acute hospitals, and free standing day hospital facilities. Hospitals operated by the Australian Defence Force, correctional authorities and Australia's external territories are not currently included. Palliative care patients are identified by the data element Hospital service—care type, code N[N].N.

Collection and usage attributes
Statistical unit:	Episodes of care for admitted patients.
Collection methods:	National reporting arrangements State and territory health authorities provide the data to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare for national collation, on an annual basis. Periods for which data collected and collated nationally Financial years ending 30 June each year.
Implementation start date:	01/07/2010
