Registration status

The following information is applicable to all metadata items.

Definition

A status value indicating the stage at which the metadata item is at in the registration process.

Registration status is composed of three components:

  • the registration authorities in which the metadata item has a status.
  • the status of the metadata item
  • the date this status was granted

Obligation

Mandatory completion. The value is automatically generated by METeOR as a result of the actions of metadata developers or registrars to change the registration status of a metadata item (i.e. by clicking the action Change registration status or Undo last registration change)

Development rules

A registration authority is an organisation recognised by METeOR as able to create (through approval) new metadata content.

The registration authorities currently available within METeoR are listed in the Table 1 below. (New registration authorities may be introduced into METeOR in the future).

The registration status values are listed in Table 2 below.

Each registration status is associated with a registration date.

The registration date is decided by a relevant committee e.g. a registration authority or its representatives.

Each registration status is associated with a statement of authorisation.

Each metadata item may have more than one registration status value recorded if processed by more than one registration authority.

The authorisation state the authority and date upon which the decision for a registration status change was made. For example: Data committee meeting, 20 February 2005.

A metadata item with a registration status of Superseded must also have a related metadata relationship of Is superseded by.

Proposed A developer has submitted this item for consideration by the registrar. Can be edited by developer and registrar
Recorded The registrar has determined that the item meets basic quality criteria and is ready for consideration by the relevant data committee. Can be edited by developer and registrar.
Candidate The item has been reviewed by a data committee and has been accepted onto their work program. Can be edited by developer and registrar.
Standardisation pending A data committee has recommended the item to a Registration authority for approval as a Standard. Can be edited by the Registrar only.
Standard The item has been endorsed by a Registration authority as a national data standard. Can be edited by the Registrar only.
Superseded A registration authority has superseded this item with another standard. Can be edited by the Registrar only.
Retired The item has been nominated by a Registration authority as retired. Can be edited by the Registrar only.
Not progressed The item will no longer be considered by the registrar, a data committee or a Registration authority. Can be edited by the Registrar only.
Non-national registration status
Draft A developer has submitted this item for consideration by the registrar. Can be edited by developer and registrar.
Final The item has been reviewed by the registrar and has been accepted as a potential item for endorsement in that authority. Can be edited by developer and registrar.
Endorsed The item has been endorsed by the Non-national registration authority. Can be edited by the Registrar only.
Archived The item has been nominated by a Registration authority as archived. Can be edited by the Registrar only.
