Guide for use: | CODE 998 Occasional smoking (less than one) ‘After 20 weeks’ is defined as greater than or equal to 20 completed weeks’ gestation (≥20 weeks + 0 days). ‘Usually’ is defined as ‘according to established, or frequent usage; commonly, ordinarily; as a rule’. If a female reports having quit smoking at some point between 20 weeks of pregnancy and the birth, the value recorded should be the number of tobacco cigarettes usually smoked daily prior to quitting. |

Collection methods: | This data element is self-reported. Recommended question: 'How many tobacco cigarettes did you usually smoke each day after 20 weeks of pregnancy?', where after 20 weeks of pregnancy is defined as greater than or equal to 20 weeks + 0 days. If a female did not smoke tobacco cigarettes at any time after 20 weeks of pregnancy, a value of 0 should be recorded. To ensure consistency of results, this data element should be collected after the birth. |
