Unemployment rate (Census Data), 2010
METeOR identifier:

Registration status:
Community Services, Superseded 04/04/2011
Description:
Proportion of the labour force who are unemployed aged 15 to 64 years
Rationale:
Widely used measure of potentially underutilised labour resources in the economy. People who are unemployed for long periods may experience greater financial hardship and may have more difficulties in finding employment because of the loss of relevant skills and employers’ perceptions of their employability.
The Indigenous undercount in the Census may introduce bias into the results for Indigenous disaggregation, which may affect comparability across states and territories.
