Description:Help on this termNational data on births are based on notifications to the perinatal data collection in each state and territory. Midwives and other staff, using information obtained from mothers and from hospital or other records, complete notification forms for each birth in each jurisdiction. Information is included in the NPDC for all live births and stillbirths of at least 400 grams birthweight or at least 20 weeks gestation.

National reporting arrangement:Help on this termState and territory health authorities provide the data to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare National Perinatal Statistics Unit for national collation, on an annual basis.
