Injury event—place of occurrence, code (ICD-10-AM 3rd edn) ANN{.N[N]}

The place where the external cause of injury, poisoning or adverse effect occurred, as represented by a code.

Admitted patient:

Use External Causes of Morbidity and Mortality Place of Occurrence codes from the current edition of ICD-10-AM. Used with all ICD-10-AM external cause codes and assigned according to the Australian Coding Standards.

External cause codes in the range W00 to Y34, except Y06 and Y07 must be accompanied by a place of occurrence code.

External cause codes V01 to Y34 must be accompanied by an activity code.

Enables categorisation of injury and poisoning according to factors important for injury control. Necessary for defining and monitoring injury control targets, injury costing and identifying cases for in-depth research.
